Sailing Home Card

If you follow my blog, you know that nautical theme stamp sets are not my norm.  Well, time to shake things up.  I broke down and I'm trying something new.

Night of Navy and Crumb Cake.  Can't go wrong with that color combo.

I took three separate strips of the Come Sail Away DSP and adhered them to a piece of Night of Navy.  I didn't leave any space inbetween them, but now looking at this picture, that would have been a good idea.  There's always next time.

With the say, "You are my True North", don't you think it would make a great Anniversay card?  For my next class, this stamp set will be one of the two  I will be using.  But, you won't be seeing this card there.  I have to keep it a surprise!

Fun-Fold Magnolia Card

Here is the last card from my class.

Card #4

The front flap is scored at 1 1/2 from the right side and folded over.  The magnolia flower is actually glued to that flap.  The Enjoy Today is adhere with mini dimensionals and is helping the magnolia stay folded over.

For the flower, I stamped it with Memento Ink and sponged with Petal Pink ink pad.  I didn't want it fully colored in.  The white on the ends gave it a more unique look.  This was also a much quick way to color the flower than the Blends.  I did finish the look with a quick swipe of the Wink of Stella marker.

The leaves are colored with the Sea Foam Stampin' Blends. Using the lighter color helped to keep the flower looking softer and blended better with the Petal Pink.

Tip:  When cutting the stripe piece of DSP, make sure you cut the stripe the correct way.  I wasn't paying attention and cut several pieces with the stripe running vertical!  Learned my lesson.

Magnolia Thank You Card

When looking at the Magnolia Lane Dies, there is a flower base and a flower overlay that I was determined to use.  I haven't seen too many cards on Pinterest using this particular die, so I set out to figure it out on my own.

Card #3 from my Stampin' in the New Catalog class.

It's what I would consider a Clean and Simple design.  Nothing fussy about this card, but that's what I like about it.

To balance the busy flowers on the right, I chose the Tufted embossing folder.  A detail without taking away from the center of attention.  Without embossing the Petal Pink, it definately would have been too plain.

I really like the flower.  Use the Fine Tip Glue to adhere the two pieces together.  Don't forget to use dimensionals to pop up the flower from the card base.

You just can't lose when you do a Clean and Simple design.

The business is yours to do whatever you would like to do.  You can grow the business by holding clubs, both on-line or local, blogging, or anything else you can think of.  Or, if you just want to join for the benefits and discounts, that is absolutely fine.  We call those people Hobbiests.  They meet the minimum requirements themselves, or even have a few friends help out with that, but don't actively try to build the business or recruit.  I know several people who are just hobbiests and they love it.  And we love them!

I'm here if you have any questions.   I'd love to chat with you.

Tasty Thursday - Blueberry Cobbler

I've been busy working on swap cards this week.  They are finally done and ready to go.  I participated in four categories

  1. Clean & Simple
  2. Christmas
  3. Fun Fold
  4. Over the top

I'll start showing  them next week.  The Over the Top was the one that killed me.  I don't want to post them too early so the other swappers don't get a head's up.  I'd hate to spoil the surprise too much.

I suprised my family with a homemade Blueberry Cobbler.  This week I was able to go get 5 pounds of blueberries from my peach truck.  Except for Megan, we all love them.  I wash a bunch of them and throughout the day, I grab some for a snack.  Yum.

Blueberry Cobbler

1/4 pound (1 stick) butter, melted

1 1/4 cups plus 2 tablespoons sugar

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 cup milk

2 cups fresh blueberries, rinsed and patted dry

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 3-quart baking dish. In a medium bowl, whisk 1 cup of the sugar with the flour, baking powder, salt and milk. Whisk in the melted butter. Pour the batter into the baking dish. Sprinkle the blueberries evenly over the top of the batter. Sprinkle 1/4 cup sugar over the top. Bake for 45 minutes. Sprinkle the remaining 2 tablespoons of sugar over the top and return to oven; bake 10 more minutes.

Chris and Alyssa were in heaven.  And it was still slightly warm when we eat it.  Even better.

Feminine Thank You Card

So, I've decided to take a break from the magnolia cards.  In this next card, quite a few items are retired, but you can still get the idea for the layout and substitute for current products.

This is a card I made for another one of my managers at work.

The background is the DELIGHTFULLY DETAILED LASER-CUT SPECIALTY PAPER.   You get choices of different patterns to use.  There is a more current style of this and it is the SHIMMER DETAILED LASER-CUT SPECIALTY PAPER.  What is so awesome about this is that one side is Very Vanilla and the other is Shimmer Whisper White.  It's a two-for-one deal.

The best way to adhere this paper is by using the Fine Tip Glue.  I dabbed dots on the outside border.  Also, throughout the inside pattern.  I especially went where the paper was a little thicker, around the flowers.  It was tricky, but worked.

The vellum leaves are also best adhered by using the Fine Tip Glue.  Add just a little on the stem, tuck under the saying and push down, just a few seconds for it to dry.

I apologize that so many products are retired.  That was not intentional.  Can you see this card using more current products?  I definately can!

Whitewash Magnolia

The one thing my girls collect on their trips are original paintings.  Or street art.  With all the travelling they both did while studying abroad, they have collected quite a few pictures that need to be framed.  So, I thought I would go to some rummage sales and try to pick some up.  It's the cheapest way for the number of paintings they have.  I was soooo disappointed.  There were 2 rummage sales in town today and neither one had pictures frames.  Seriously, I haven't gone to rummage sales in so long, but only 2 in town?  It's not heard of.  Maybe next weekend I'll try again.

Card #2.

Isn't this card stunning?  It's done with a whitewash technique.  I saw it on Pinterest and HAD to do it right away.

The image is stamped and embossed with gold embossing powder.  Take your aqua painter and your White Craft pad and color away.  I had to go over the flower a few times to get the look, but LOVE the outcome.  I will be using this technique again.

When coloring with the Craft White, don't worry about the inside gold embossed lines.  The embossing resists the ink.

For the center, I used a sponge dauber and Petal Pink ink pad.  Start in the center and kind of brush outward.  This way you get the concentrated pink in the center, and gradually fades out.

We did this for my event this week.  The people were in love with this card.  It was a new technique they haven't heard of and were excited to make it.  I love seeing them get so excited in making a card.  It makes my job even more worthwhile.
