Hope and Golden Afternoon

Is anyone ready for the new catalog to start?  I'm for some new products.  Of course, I will miss some that are retiring, but soon they are usually forgotten soon after the new catalog starts.

I will miss this Golden Afternoon stamp set.  Not only do I like the trees, I also really like the sentiments.  They are simple and sweet.

The tree is stamped by coloring with Soft Suede and Old Olive markers.  It would be perfect by using the Stamparatus.  That way, if you miss coloring a part, it's super easy to re-ink and stamp again.

I sponged some Old Olive under the tree for grass.  It looked way to bare.  I wanted to stamp some birds from the set, but when I add something extra like that, I usually end up messing it up and having to start all over.  Never mind the birds this time.  But, sponging some blue sky would have been nice too.

Here's a little inside on the layout.  I had the tree and sentiment completely stamped.  Unfortunately, the sentiment was slightly crooked and of course, it bothered me.  I matted the Whisper White on the Nature's Poem piece, and off set it with another, making sure the sentiment is now straight on the card front.  Now, it looks straight and the tree looks good off kilter just a bit.

You are Going Places

For our vacation, we met Megan in London.  It was early January when she left.  Skype is great, but doesn't take the place of seeing her in person.  We took in parts of London right away.  Megan took us to Burrough Market to grab a bite to eat and then off the Tower Bridge.  It was too late in the day to actually go into Tower of London.  We did go see it several days later.  As always, it is fascinating.

It was so good seeing this smiling face in person again.  She is coming home on May 28, on her 21st birthday.  We are all so excited for to come back home.

I was challenged to take this piece of Share What You Love DSP, use retiring colors and stamp sets to make a retirement card.  This at first was difficult because I really don't have a stamp that uses "retirement" in any way.  Thinking outside of the box, this one works.  You are going places.  It actually covers several situations.  Of course, vacation, graduation and even retirement.  The later two refer to moving onto the next phase of life.

The stamp was from the En Route stamp set.  It's in the Annual Catalog and will be retiring in June.

What do you think about mixing the round doily with the squares?  Everyone matches circles with circles so I thought I'd try something different.  It's good to switch things up.

This is all I have for tonight.  I'm still fighting jet lag a little, so it's bedtime for this stamper.

Everything is Rosy

I am back from vacation.  Unfortunately.  It was hard saying good-bye to Megan and leaving her in London.  But, we had a great time with her.  We took in the usual sightseeing spots in London and even took the train to see her university.

One thing I am so amazed about is the great public transportation Europe has.  Megan was able to get us around by using the train, bus or the underground.  We never had the need to rent a car.  And we are sooo glad for that because they drive on the other side of the road!  I'm sure Chris and I could have figured out the public transportation, but Megan took charge so we didn't have to worry about it.

Now, here is a confession.  I pretty much had a post ready last night.  Then, one touch of a button and Poof! It was all gone.  Since it was almost 10 pm, I just gave up.

Happy Birthday

Sorry this picture has a shadow cast upon it.  I didn't notice it until after I uploaded it for my blog.

I received this for my birthday.  Isn't it just super spring-ish?  Is that even a word?  I'm not sure myself.

The embossing folder, Lovely Floral is used on the Daffodil Delight.  It's one that I do own, but hardly use.  No idea why not because I really do like it.  I'm not sure, but I hope it's not on the retirement list.

The Basket Weave is another embossing folder that I wish I did own.  I keep saying that it will be in my shopping card, but it never gets put in there!

Everyone is gaga over these butterflies.  They are in the Occassions Catalog, Butterfly Gala Stamp Set and also a bundle!  Yes, they come with punch. Stampin' Up! would never let us fussy cut that much.

Birthday Thinlit

Happy Birthday Thinlit.  It's short and sweet.  Nothing fancy and that is what makes it great.

The stamp is from Gorgeous Grunge that retired several years ago.  I loved that set and was disappointed when it retired.  It went with everything.  Who doesn't love a little bit of splatter?

Add some ribbon and bling and you have a great card.   And even better because it could be feminine or masculine.  Ok, maybe eliminate the bling for a masculine card.  But, the black rhinestones would also work on a masculine card.  Got any of those left?

Hello Beautiful

Hello Beautiful sums up this birthday card.  I don't know what stamp set the words are from.  But I know the sender, it was a Stampin' Up! stamp.  Or, maybe I'm wrong and it's from a pack of DSP.

I know the butterfly is from the Butterfly Gala stamp set and punch.  Butterflies are so popular right now.  They are just the right little touch a card could use.

Most cards don't use two different ribbons or twine together, but I like how this one looks.

Would have thought to put Fresh Fig with Bermuda Bay, but it works.  I'm always amazed how people put certain colors together and it works.  These two wouldn't have been pair together in my eyes.

I Believe in You

I will definately miss Lovely as a Tree.  It is the oldest current stamp set.  Now, I don't remember how long it has been around, but I can say it is over 10 years old.  For Stampin' Up!, that is old.  Look at it here.  My set is so old, it's in the wood blocks.  Now that's before they started offering clear stamps.

This is the oak tree from that stamp set.  For some, it reminds us of the Tree of Life from Disney's Aimal Kingdom!

Anyway, I didn't want the tree to be just one color.  Take two markers, I used Mossy Meadow and Old Olive, and roughly color the tree with the two markers.  Make sure you don't cover up the first color with the second color.  By using the two diffent colors, it gives more dimension to the tree.

Lovely as a Tree, you will be missed.

Last Chance Products

Don't forget the Retirement List is currently going on.  These products will be available until June 3, or while supplies last.  Through May 24, the stamp sets will be guaranteed to be available, but not the other items.

This list is unusually long remember.  It's because some stamps are being retired in the wood form, and might be coming back in the new Cling form.  Isn't that great?!  The Cling form really cling to the acryllic blocks.  They are really nice.

I think all the Stampin' Up! world is crying over these two products retiring.  We know they are replacing them, but we haven't seen the replacements yet.  I'm sure it will be fabulous, but until then, Farewell to the Stampin' Trimmer and Big Shot.  You are going to be a tough act to follow.
