Swirly Bird Sailboat

Summertime in Wisconsin means boating.  I couldn't resist doing a sailboat card.

The card looks better in person.  Under the sailboat looks little messy, but that is just the "water".  I used my aqua painter with the Balmy Blue and tried to do a little bit of water.  I might try to use the dots on with the stamp set.  It might clean up the look.  I'll do that tomorrow.

My first card, I stamped the swirls in the upper left corner for the sun.  I did too many swirls and it didn't look good . If you do that, use a larger swirl, but stamp just once. So instead, I chose to use the Glitter Enamel dots in Daffodil Delight to represent the sun.  I like how it turned out.  Gotta use up that retired product!

This was my first time using Balmy Blue.  I could get used to this color very easily.  I paired it with Poppy Parade.  Two new colors I haven't used yet!  The Poppy Parade really popped against the Balmy Blue.

Here is my color combo for the card.

This is a really easy card to reproduct.  Clean and simple is pretty much my style.

Just Breathe Waterfront

The challenge... make a card with water.  Done.

This is what I came up with.  Doesn't it make you want to be at the waterfront?

Instead of reguar Whisper White card stock, I used the Glossy White.  When sponging, the colors kind of move around the blend together better.  I started at the top and worked my way to the bottom.  The colors are:  Daffodil Delight, Crumb Cake, Coastal Cabana and Bermuda Bay.

One key tip is that each color should have its own piece of sponge.  I label mine with a piece of cardstock stapled to the top and handwrite the name on it.

So all you do is get some adhesive on the sponge and start rubbing on the glossy paper.  When you like the effect, move on to the next color, blending the colors together.  When you are done sponging, let dry a few minutes so it won't smudge anymore.

Now, I adhere the Bermuda Bay piece on top of the Glossy White, just for something different.  I cut the square from the Bermuda Bay smaller than the piece of Glossy White.  I started 1/2 inch down from the top and centered the square horizontally.  In order to cut the square, I measured and marked the square with a pencil.  To actually cut the square, I used my paper trimmer.  If you aren't comfortable with that, use a sharp edge and ruler.

Now to adhere the Glossy White sponged piece to the Bermuda Bay.  Here is another tip.  Washi Tape.  We all have some extras laying around, so why not use it?  It's also great if you have to reposition the  Glossy White.  If you don't have any Washi tape, my second choice is the blue painter's tape. it's acid free and works great.  I use it quite often on the back of cards when adhering ribbon and such behind the card.

The bakers twine I used was a Whisper White and Bermuda Bay stripe.  Unfortunately it is retired, but just a Whisper White would also look great.

Remeber the colors I listed?  Here they are:

This was a fun challenge.  I knew I wanted to use the Waterfront stamp set, and I did.  But very minimally.  It was fun making my own water.  I've had the Glossy Paper for quite a while, so I was glad to use it again.

Sunny Days

I received this swap card from my upline Lyssa.  Isn't it cute?  Here's a confession...I had to look up the stamp set she used in the catalog.  The set is called Sunny Days.  It's one of those sets that I like but unfortunately, don't own it.  Yet.

The colors I think she used are So Saffron, Pear Pizzazz and Bermuda Bay.  It's a perfect card to use the Stampin' Blends on.  They are all back in stock too!

See the stamp in the upper left corner?  That is from Around the Corner stamp set.  I did not have to look that one since I already own it!  It will be a fun set to play with in the future.

Have a great night!

DSP Sale

Did you forget about the DSP sale?  It's a great way to stock up on some of the new papers in the Annual Catalog!  The packs that are eligible for this sale are:

Product List

There are no limits to how many packs you can get for free!  That is a sweet deal.  The two that I'm most tempted to get are the Twinkle Twinkle and Tranquil Textures packs.  Both packs have a very subtle design to them and I think that's what I like about them.  But then again, Garden Impressions is so colorful and lively.  Gosh, it's so hard to choose!

If you are ordering on line, once you put the 4th qualifing pack of DSP in your cart, it will automatically adjust for the free pack.  If it doesn't, then look again.  Maybe you chose a pack that was not eligible in this special.

Thinking of You

Another weekend has come and gone.  I can say we got a lot accomplished during this time.  That's a great feeling.  I'm so not ready for work tomorrow.  In fact, I never got my schedule for this week.  So I'm just going to take a chance and assume that I am scheduled at 8.

It's taken me a week to finally finish this card, but I like the reults.  I started out with three colors - Mint Macaron, Coastal Cabana and Bermuda Bay.  I was going to try for a water effect so I got out the watercolor paper and Aqua Painters.  So it started out a water, but ended up being the sky.

For the square Bermuda Bay, I started out as a 3 x 3 piece.  With a ruler, I lightly scored a line at 2 3/4 onall sides.  I was able to cut it with my paper cutter.  If anyone has an easier way to do this, I'm all ears.

The chair is cut from Early Espresso and really pops against the papers.  I put the bow in the opposite corner to balance things out.

My favorite part is the flowers stamped in the botton corner.  Just a touch of fun.

Look at the color combo.  LOVE IT! The Early Espresso really stands out.

That's it for tonight.  Have a great week!

Tasty Thursday - Salsa

Last night I check the weather and it said low to mid 80's.  Since we were moving furniture, it sounded pretty good.  Should have known it would be too good.  90's  is not my ideal weather for moving.  My in-laws are moving in 4 weeks.  I already told them if it was going to be this hot, I'm not helping them.  They didn't believe me.

One dish we all like in the summer is homemade salsa.  It's not a hard recipe, but just takes time to cut everything up.  I'm not giving specific measurements because this is a recipe that is altered to your taste.  Such as, I don't care for cilantro, but the salsa does need some.  Therefore, I don't add very much, just enough so you can taste it, but if you like more, then go ahead and add more.

Homemade Salsa

3-4 large tomatoes

small to medium onion

chopped cilantro, no stems

3 Tablespoons Balsamic Vinegar

2-3 jalapeños or other hot chiles

salt

lime juice

Dice the tomatoes.  Add salt and refrigerate for an hour.

In the meantime, dice the onion and cilantro.  Chop the jalapeños on another cutting board, or at the very end.  Ater the hour or so, take out the tomatoes.  By adding the salt, the tomatoes have released their juices.  Drain most of the juice off.  Add the remaining ingredients.  Add the balsamic vinegar and lime juice to your taste.  Refrigerate again before serving.

I always save the jalapeños for the last to be chopped.  I don't like hot salsa.  In mine, I slice the jalapeno in half, and remove the membranes and seeds from the inside.  This is the part that makes it hot.  I chop the remaining outside and add it to the salsa.  You get the taste, but not the heat.  Now my husband on the other hand, loves hot salsa.  I always make a small bowl for him.  What I do is once my salsa is complete, take some out and put in another bowl.  Then I chop another jalapeno, including the seeds and membrane, and add it all to his bowl.  I have a serrano pepper growing out back so I can't wait to make salsa using that pepper.  It's supposed to be hotter than the jalapeno.

Be careful when chopping the jalapeno.  Never touch your face without washing your hands.  I wash them two times to be safe.  If you rub your nose or eyes, they might start burning.  Never rinse with water, it just makes it worse.  Dab on some milk.  It takes the sting away.  Trust me on this.  I learned from experience.

Look at my husband's salsa.  There is a lot more green in his than mine!  See the seeds?  Then you can see the heat.

On a hot summer day, this tastes wonderful.  Grab some chips and enjoy.

Until next time...Stampin' Always,

It's Your Day

Happy 4th of July!

We aren't doing anything very special today.  I did have to work all day.  But that's ok.  Now I don't work until Monday!!  Yippee!  Chris and I have a ton of things on our to-do list.  Tomorrow we start out by getting "new" furniture in the living room.  We are putting our current furniture in storage for hopefully only about a year when one of the girls might need it for college.  I am praying it will be cooler than today.  Even my husband didn't do anything outside today.  And he LOVES the hot and humid weather.

Sorry to say I don't have a patriotic card today.  Completely didn't think ahead about that.

Instead here' a Blushing Bridei and Smoky Slate card.  I do love these two colors together.  It sents the tone for a very feminine card.  The cherry blossoms definitely  adds to that feeling.

Do you like the say on the corner?  It's from the brand new Around the Corner stamp set.  I like that you could use it for multiple purposes...Birthday, Graduation, Shower.  Instead of the candles, you could add something else instead.  For this card just a flower would be perfect.

The cherry blossoms are from the Colorful Seasons stamp set and thinlits.  It was fun getting both out to play with!  I like how you get the dimension with the cut-out flowers. You also can't go wrong with the pearls in the center.

I tried something a little different and offset the Whisper White and Smoky Slate.  My first intention was to stamp flowers on Smoky Slate, but I decided it would have been too much.  The embossed Blushing Bride piece was more than enough.

That's it for tonight.
