Miss You Kangaroo

If you follow me, can you guess who I made this card for?  Yes, for Alyssa in Germany.  It was her Good Luck on exams and come home soon card.

How can you not love the kangaroo and koala bear from the Animal Outing stamp set?  I thought it was very appropriate since I just want to keep her in a pouch and not travelling all over Europe.  But, she is now home!  She has slowly adjusted back to home life and is back at work.

Don't worry about any kind of fussy cutting with this set.  You can get the Animal Friends thinlits and cut them out within seconds.

Back to the card.  It was great using the Blenders again!  I used the Crumb Cake, Smoky Slate and Old Olive Blenders.  When I use the Blenders, I color in small areas.  The colors blender a bit better when they are still fresh.  I used my Olive Green Blender and did a shade of green under the kangaroo.  It's so subtle that you might not notice it right away.

Here is the color combo.

By the way, Alyssa loved the card.

Blogging the next two days might be a tricky for me.  My in-laws are moving Wednesday and I will be busy getting things to help them out.  I already can't wait for Thursday to come and have it over with.

Tasty Thursday - Blueberry Cobbler

It's that time of year...Blueberries!  I love them just plain.  Usually, I just rinse and set them on the counter and snack all day long.

One of our favorite desserts is Cobbler.  Just about any kind we like, and they aren't super hard to make.  Last night Alyssa made a Blueberry Cobbler.  Turned out great. I've been making this recipe for years now and I don't recall when I got it from, but it turns out great every time.

Blueberry Cobbler

2 cups blueberries

1 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice

3/4 cup sugar

3 Tablespoon butter or margarine, softened

1/2 cup milk

1 cup flour

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 teapoon baking powder

1/2 to 1 cup sugar (according to your tate the the sweetness of the fruit)

1 tablespoon cornstarch

3/4 cup boiling water

Line well-greased 8 x 8 pan with blueberries and sprinkle lemon juice over them.

Cream 3/4 cup sugar with butter and milk.  Mix together the flour, baking powder and salt.  Add to the cream sugar mixture.  Spread batter over blueberries.

Mix together the 1/2 to 1 cup sugar with cornstarch and salt.  Sprinkle this over the batter and pour boiling water over the top.  DO NOT STIR.

Bake at 375 for 1 hour.

Now, my theory is if you are going to go through the trouble of making this recipe, do at least a 9 x 13 size pan.  Just double the ingredients.  My secret is that with any cobbler, be generous with the fruit.  The fruit is what makes the recipe, don't skimp on the best ingredient.  You won't be sorry if you do this.

I bought 10 pounds of blueberries this week, so everything is blueberry right now.  My muffins are in the freezer already.  I think I will have to make more since I have 5 pounds left.    Yikes!  Good thing they freeze really easy so I can make a cobbler in the winter.

I'm also glad Megan isn't home this week.  She hates blueberries.  At least now I don't feel guilty for making everything blueberry.

Stained Glass Card

I was just looking for a card to post, and my stash is getting very low. Guess that means I need to spend a lot of time in my stamp room!  That is such a hardship.

This was a card swap from Cheryl N.

The stained glass is actually the Graceful Glass Designer Vellum.  It's best when colored with the Stampin' Blends.  Great coverage and minimal lines.  By coloring just part of the vellum, the patterns really start to stand out.    I love the bright colors she chose.

That's all I have tonight.  Crazy day tomorrow, so I'm not sure if I'll get a post done.

Until next time...Stampin' Always,

Crumb Cake Vase

I've been working on this card for several days.  Sometimes it takes walking away to get inspiration to complete a project.

I've seen cards that use the Whisper White Craft Ink and Crumb Cake so I had to try it myself.

Stamping with the Whisper White Craft Ink can be a little tricky.

  • First, sometimes you have to stamp the image several times to get the right look you want.  The Stamparatus makes this super easy. Secure the paper with the magnets and line up the image.  Ink the image and stamp.  Repeat as many time as necessary.  Super easy using the Stamparatus.  No need to re-align anything.
  • Second, the Craft ink takes longer than normal ink to dry.  I recommend leaving overnight to dry or carefully use the heat tool

Time to try the Balmy Blue.  I think I'll like it.  The Birthday Wishes is stamped in this color.  I used the aqua painter with the Balmy Blue ink pad and lightly colored the flowers.  Be careful not to use too much water as it will wash away the craft ink.  I colored just a little on the vase to bring out its detail.  I can't emphasise enough...don't use too much water, especially on the vase.

The oval frame is from the Delightfully Detailed Laser-Cut Speciality paper.  They make cards like this super easy.  The frame gives off a soft and  feminine feel, perfect for this vase.  I thought to add some kind of embellishment, but couldn't think of anything that I would like.  Simple can be good.

Tasty Thursday - Spiced Peach Muffins

It's that time of year!  Peach time.  It's one of our favorite time of summer.  The girls and I LOVE peaches.

There is a truck that delivers Georgia peaches from town to town.  They are so worth the money.  The peaches from the local stores aren't very good even though they say from Georgia.  From the truck, you can get a whole box of peaches.  Let them ripe a few days and you are good to go.  I've made peach cobbler and froze some peach slices.

Another recipe I've made are these Spice Peach muffins.  They are pretty good.  I usually leave them out for a few days, then freeze them.  This way, in the middle of winter, we can take them out and enjoy a taste of summer.  Also, the girls can bring them back to college.

Spiced Peach Muffins

2 eggs
½ cup canola oil
1 cup milk
1½ cups brown sugar
3 ⅓ cups flour
¾ tsp salt
1 tbsp baking powder
½ tsp ground allspice
½ tsp ground nutmeg
1 tsp ground cinnamon
3 peaches, peeled and diced
Sugar in the raw

Preheat oven to 400º. Grease a 12 cup muffin tin, set aside.

In a large bowl combine eggs, oil, milk, and brown sugar.  In a separate bowl, combine flour, salt, baking powder, allspice, nutmeg, and cinnamon.  Pour dry ingredients into wet and stir until just combined, being careful not to overstir.  Gently fold in peaches.

Pour the batter into muffin cups. Sprinkle tops with raw sugar. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

You can find the original post here from Edesia's Notebook.

The muffins are a little dense, but still good.  The peaches make them very moist.  And as usual, I forgot to take a picture.  I've got to get better about that.

Easy Fresh Fig Card

Look at the Delightfully Detailed Laser-Cut Speciality Paper.  They make card designing easy!

All you have to do is add to the card front, put a greeting on to and you have a great card!  I don't think I would want to do too much more because it would take away from the beauty of the paper.

Have you noticed the paper in the catalog?  Click here so you can see up close, the paper's designs.

Another good detail about this paper...one side is Very Vanilla and the other is Whisper White!  You get two for one!  In this card, I used the Very Vanilla side.

The sentiment are from the Rooted in Nature stamp set.  I think it was the perfect size for this card.
