Another Reindeer Card

I need a weekend.  Where can I go to order one?  My weekend  was spent working all day Saturday.   Today was spent going up to LaCrosse with Alyssa to bring Megan's things home.  She is leaving in January for a semester in England, so she has to move out of the dorm completely.  She has exams until Tuesday, and then she will be home!  This momma is going to be so happy to have both girls home for a short period of time.

Here is another version of the Detailed Deer thinlits and the Festive Farmhouse DSP.

The deer is actually the negative piece on the Very Vanilla.  It's not cut out of Cherry Cobbler.  But, don't throw out the deer that you just cut out!  Wait until tomorrow and you will see what I did with it.  Remember?  I hate waste.

Speaking of waste, the size of the Cherry Cobbler came about by accident.  It was actually a piece of scrap Cherry Cobbler I put behind to see how it would look and I actually ended up liking the size.  Wider on the sides but shorter on the height of Very Vanilla.    A different kind of layering is good.

The Striped Burlap Ribbon is just folded in half and adhere with several glue dots.  The sentiment is adhere with dimensionals on either side.

Now, here is another mistake made to work.

I mistakenly stamped the sentiment upside down.  Oopsie.  It was down too far on the paper for my liking.  Because I hate throwing a big piece like this away, I had to make it work.  Stamp two deer above the sentiment and it looks like it was supposed to be that way.   Personally, I think it turned out well.  Doesn't look like a mistake again.

This is all for now.  Click on the above picture for dimensions and instructions.

St. Nick Treats

Do you do St. Nick or Christmas Stockings?  Growing up, we did St. Nick so I insisted we continue that tradition.  We still do them here.  Since the girls are now usually back at school, we do them Thanksgiving weekend.  But, I can'thelp myself.  I make something for the girls and their friends.

The base is the Pocket Framelits.  You can see them here.  They are large enough for a gift card and maybe something else that is relatively thin.  I also gave them an ornament that is their initial and it fit perfectly.

Naturally, I can't make any two the same.  This would ok since they attend different colleges, but not to me.  I made all six different.  I'm not going to get into the details of the supplies I used.  That list would be huge.  I will say, the only retired item is the front of the Night of Navy  in the bottom middle.

They are the perfect gift card holder.  The framelits make them easy to make.  The challenging part is the hardest.  Let your creativity soar!

Christmas Poinsettia card

I received this Christmas card from my club member, Ginger.  She always make such great cards.

She used the Peaceful Poinsettia stamp set and thinlits for the flower and sentiment.  The Sprig punch are the leaves.  By the time I decided to order that punch, it was backordered.  My loss.  Ginger was smart enough to get it before I did.

Since poinsettias are such a rich red color, I'm so glad she chose to use Cherry Cobbler.  The thinlits in Very Vanilla really show each flower pedal.

Thank you for this beautiful card Ginger!!

Night of Navy Snowflakes

So, all day I had been thinking that I had my demonstrator meeting tonight.  I hurry home from work, check email and then go to my stamp room because I'm not quite ready for club tomorrow night.  About 10 minutes before I should be leaving, I double check the last newsletter and it states the next meeting is in January.  After confirming with a friend, it is true!  No meeting tonight!  I love those meetings, but in December we all know how crazy things can get so I was excited to get more time in my stamp room instead.

We actually did this card last month in cub.  I don't always post cards in the order that I create them.   It's my challenge to keep everything in order.   Yikes.

The gold snowflakes and "Holidays" is embossed with gold embossing powder.  I just randomly stamped some on the paper.  It definately give a more elegant look to the card.  The gold metallic thread just enhances that.

The paper I used it the glossy paper.  The glossy part makes it easier to sponge and the ink can move around just for a few seconds before it dries.  I just did random sponging with my Night of Navy ink pad.   The "Happy" is also stamped in the Night of Navy.

Can you believe that it's only 2 weeks until Christmas?  Jeez, I'm so not ready!

Cherry Cobbler Reindeer

It was a busy Sunday for me.  I cut and baked a triple batch or cut-out cookies (my family's favorite), and made two other kinds of Christmas cookies.  One of the kinds was the Lumberjack Cookies that I posted the other day.  I split the recipe in half and it made a good amount for my needs.

On the other hand, there is no way I can do a single batch of cut-outs.  They would be gone in 2 days in my house.   Last year I just doubled the recipe and my family was upset when they were all gone.  Learned my lesson.  Always go with a triple batch.

I was playing around with the Festive Farmhouse DSP.  This is one of the cards I came up with.  I did another one that is similar but I can't show that quite yet.  We are making it Tuesday at club and I don't want to spoil it for them.

Anyway, I cut the deer out with the Detailed Deer thinlit and use the negative part.  Make sure the deer is centered (towards the top) on the Very Vanilla.  But...don't throw away the deer piece itself.  Use it for another card!  I'm still working on that part myself.

The striped ribbon is put on an angle that goes with the deer.  Straight across doesn't always work.  Make sure you stamp the sentiment in the corner before you do the ribbon.  I don't think the ribbon would interfere with stamping, but not worth the  risk.

I hope everyone has a great week!

Tiny Town

Don't you just love fun mail?  Here is what I received yesterday.

My club member, Elaine sent me this Christmas card.  It's like a diaorama picture!

The blue base is Island Indigo.  The town is in three layers.  The two front are floating and the last is glued to the back of the card.  The white paper has a pearl finish to it so it shimmers beautifully.

The Merry Christmas, star and the sleigh are all embossed with white embossing powder.  The sentiment is on the back and also embossed in white.

This has to be truly one of my favorite cards I had ever received.  It is a work of art.  One that I appreciate all the time and work she put into it.

Thank you so very much Elaine.

Tasty Thursday - Lumberjack Cookies

Do you like Gingersnap cookies?

Well then you should like these.  They are very similar, but not exactly I don't know what makes them a Lumberjack.  I just googled some recipes and they didn't say where the name came from, except I noticed some titles included New England.  Makes me wonder if the recipe came from around that area of the States.

This recipe does make quite a few cookies.  But they are nice and soft, not hard like normal Gingersnap cookies.  Sometimes people dip the cookies part way in white chocolate.  Yum.

I've been making this recipe for so many years, I don't recall where the recipe came from.  Probably some cookie magazine that I had collected over the years.  This is a good, classic recipe.

Lumberjack Cookies

4 cups flour

2 teaspoon cinnamon

1 teaspoon baking soda

1 teaspoon ginger

1 cup sugar

1 cup shortening

1 cup molasses

2 eggs

1/4 cup sugar

Preheat oven to 350.  Lightly grease cookie sheet.

Combine flour, cinnamon, baking soda, ginger, salt.  Set aside.

Beat shortening 30 seconds. Add 1 cup sugar.  Beat in molasses and eggs.  Add flour mixture.

Place 1/4 cup sugar in bowl.  Roll dough into balls and roll in sugar.

Bake until edge are firm, and tops are slightly cracked, about 12 minutes.

These cookies are relatively easy to make.  A little time consuming because of the rolling into balls and then into sugar, but not too bad.  During the holidays, there is soo many sweets, peppermint, frosted, chocolate...it's good to have a simple, classic cookie for a change.

I'm planning on making these this year.  It has been several years since I've made them, so it's time again.  I'll try to remember to post a picture when they are made.

Until next time...Stampin' Always,
