Coloring Leaves

Are the leaves starting to turn by you?  They are here in Wisconsin.  Give it a couple more weeks and the color will be fabulous.  I love going for drives this time of year.  I'm thinking about going to visit my daughter just so I can see the scenery.  That's sad.

I think Bloom & Joy Stamp Set is the sleep set in the Holiday Catalog.  Even on Pinterest, I don't see many cards posted using this stamp set.  For me, it caught my attention because it is not just Christmas or fall, but both.  I love sets that don't target just one theme.

We made this simple card in club last night.  The leaves are colored by using markers.  I used Daffodil Delight, Crushed Curry and Mango Melody.  Don't forget to start with the lightest marker and work your way to the darkest.  Some parts actually look green.  Must have been when the colors were mixed on the stamp.

The stripe piece is the Magnolia Lane DSP.  I needed something to ground the tree.  By tearing the one side, it added some texture without any fuss.  Sorry, you did have to fussy cut the urn.

Oh, don't forget the rhinestones!

Another Deck the Halls Card

Was everyone's weekend great?  Mine was not too bad.  Friday was awesome.  I went with three friends antiquing.  There is a thing called the Vintage Shop Hop.  Really.  Google it.  It provides a map of antique stores in Wisconsin and Northern Illinois that have an "Open House" this weekend.  There are over 400+ stores listed on this map!!  Not kidding.  We went to a bunch of them and just enjoyed spending time together.  There is another in March, I think, and hopefully we will be able to go again.

On my last post, I showed a card combining Christmas Gleaming Stamp Set and Wrapped in Plaid DSP.  I promised another card using the same products, cardstock included, in another completely different way.  Here is the first card again.

I really do like this card.  It's clean and simple.  It has cutouts, dimension,  and texture with the leaves/berries.    Now, here is the second card using pretty much the same product.

Let's note the same products:

Colors in ink and cardstock

 - Cherry Cobbler, Shaded Spruce, Whisper White

  • Wrapped in Plaid DSP
  • Stamp set - sentiment and leaves/berries

Here are the differences:

  • Horizontal vs. Vertical layout
  • circles vs. nesting dies

Amazing the simple differences.  The leaves/berries go together perfectly.  Goes to show how even though the Christmas Gleaming Stamp Set and Wrapped in Plaid DSP, aren't bundled together, but there's no reason why we can't put them together.

On the berries, I used the new Shimmery Crystal Effects.  Now they look shiney and shimmery.  Squeeze some out and "color" the area you want.  Let dry.  It's that simple.  Take a closer look at the berries.

Mine aren't perfect because you can see some highs and lows, but that's ok too.  You get the idea.  If you get them "perfect" it will be a smooth surface, like an epoxy sticker.

Which card is your favorite?  I'm thinking this one is.

Easy Deck the Halls Card

Remember I said last night we were in for some storms?  Well, it came.  Right after I finished that post, the cell phones were sending out alarms...Tornado Warnings.  There were storm clouds right over Fort Atkinson that were rotating and potentional tornado.  The winds caused some destruction on the south side of town.  Today, they did confirm that it was a EF1 tornado.  Thank goodness no one was injured or killed.  There was enough destruction with the downed trees.

Today I am showing you the first of two cards that share the same stamp set and materials, but look completely different.

I mixed Christmas Gleaming Stamp Set with the Wrapped In Plaid DSP.  Sometimes we get wrapped up with what stamp sets are sold with the coordinating paper, we forget to mix and match.  Look at the perfect match.  Holly & berries stamp matches holly & berries paper.  It couldn't get any more perfect than that.

Of course, I don't have the Shaded Spruce or Cherry Cobbler Stampin' Blends.  It seems like I never had the ones I need.  So, here's the next best thing.  Aqua painters and ink pads.  Use minimal water but you can color and get the different shades, almost like the blends.

Notice the glare on the berries?  I used the Shimmery Crystal Effects on them.  It's new and in the Holiday Catalog.  Squeeze enough to cover the area and then let dry.  I didn't time it, but I say it was pretty dry within 15-20 minutes.  That's not too long.

I'll share the second card in the next day or two.  You can compare which one you like better.

Unconventional Christmas Colors

Looks like we are in for some storms tonight.  There are watches all over the tv for Flash Flooding an severe thunderstorms.  The trees are very still outside right now and it is super humid.   Should make for some interesting sleeping tonight.

Do you use conventional Christmas colors when making your Christmas cards?  Or do you go unconventional?  Typically, I go conventional, the greens and reds, but sometimes it's nice to get away from that.  Look what I came up with.

The colors I chose were Seaside Spray, Rococo Rose and Mint Macaron.  I haven't done much with the new 2019-2020 In-Colors, but add in the Mint Macaron, and they all look great together!

If you were lucky to get the Purple Posy, that would look great too.  I wasn't so lucky, and haven't put in an order lately.  But, it is now available, both the ink pad and refill!

Notice the Merry Christmas along the left side of the card?  That is actually ribbon!  I ran a very thin line of the Multipurpose Liquid Glue down the side and adhered the ribbon using that.   You could also use Tear & Tape if you have that.

Now, what I'm excited for is the three rhinestones.  I tried an experiment.  I picked up a rhinestone with the Take Your Pick tool, the piercing tool to be exact.  I gently dabbed it in the Delicata Copper ink pad.  Now, I was impatient for it to dry, so I took my heat tool to it.  Within about 30 seconds it was dry, and didn't rub off!  WaHoo!  Now I have copper rhinestones!

I'm starting to hear some thunder in the distance, and the wind is picking up.   Time to let the dog out before the storm really does hit.

Criss-Cross Christmas Card

Happy National Coffee Day!

It so happened to land on a Sunday when my coffee group meets.  Just about every Sunday we get together, chat and do show and tell with our Stampin' Up! creations.  I didn't have any thing to show today, but I shared a lot of swaps last week.

Do you see where the Criss-Cross comes from?  And with Goil Foil Sheets too!

The gold was inspired from the DSP and also the ribbon.  The dsp is the Wrapped in Plaid.  Both sheets are from the same pack.  Did you notice the gold stripes in each piece?  I love the little touches of gold.

The larger gold stripe was just a little much for me.  That is why the Shaded Spruce/Gold ribbon is there.  I ran it down the middle and it help break up the shiny gold.

The tree and the Merry Christmas are embossed with the Gold Embossing Powder.  If you don't have those embossing supplies, try the new Golden Glitz Delicata Metallic Ink Pad.  All the pads are wonderful!  I'm so glad Stampin' Up! has them in the Holiday Catalog.  If they would make it to the next Annual Catalog, that would be the absolute BEST!

Bloom with Beauty & Joy

I sure couldn't have picked a worse time to do this post.  Do you watch Chicago Fire?  It's been my favorite since the first episode.  One of my favorite quirky characters didn't make it out alive from the fire.  Megan is probably up at school crying right now.  And judging by her text message, I was right.  Chicago Fire sure does know how to get your attention very quickly.  If you don't watch it, I highly recommend it.  Some episodes are sit on the edge of your chair they are so good.

Anyway, onto other things.

Beauty & Joy Stamp Set hasn't been getting the recognization it deserves.  I think this card might be in the top 10 that I have ever made.  There are a lot of colors in it, but at the same time, it doesn't seem like it.  They are so subtle, but together work great.

I colored the leaves with my Stampin' Markers.  You have probably seen this technique done before with the refill inkers and baby wipes.  This time it's done by randomly coloring the leaves with the markers.  Start with the lightest and go darker.  This way the lightest marker won't get contaminated with the dark colors.

Take a look at all the colors used in this card.  Does this surprise you?

This base is my favorite in the set.  It looks a little vintage and I love the detail on it.  Unfortunately, there is no punch or die so I had to hand cut it out, but it wasn't too bad.
