Christmas Gleaming Fun Fold Card

How was your weekend?  I had a friend over yesterday and we made Christmas cards.  We haven't hung out in a long time, so it was great getting together again.  Tonight, I got together with my former co-workers for pizza.  It was a great time.  With Thanksgiving coming up, we are all very excited for one thing.  WE GET A THANKSGIVING!!!  No eating early.  No leaving to get to work.  No dealing with crazy customers.  The past several years, it was getting really hard to eat and run from my family's dinner just so people can get those good deals.  There were actually quite a few people that would thank me for working.  I always appreciated those customers comments.  At least those customers realized the sacrifices we made for our jobs, and for them.

I've seen this card style for quite a while and finally sat down to make one.  The base of the card is Mossy Meadow.  I added a thin piece of Very Vanilla between the DSP and Mossy Meadow.  Otherwise, the DSP just blended too well, inspite of the copper accents.

It's paired with Pretty Peacock in the middle.  It wasn't one that I chose right away, but after researching, I found those two colors did go together.  They grow on you after a while.

I did the three ornaments in all three colors.  Take a peek:

The copper foil came in the actual DSP.  On the ornament, I used the copper embossing powder.  But here you get the gist of what colors were used in this card.

I have club this week, and we will be doing another version of this card.  I started it tonight, but had to leave for dinner.  I'll finish it tomorrow and will post it after Tuesday.  I gotta keep it a surprise for my club peeps!

Tasty Thursday - Sicilian Chicken Soup

Doesn't soup sound good right about now?  I like it during the winter when it's cold outside.  And it's cold enough here lately.  I've made this recipe several years ago and my family all liked it.  Shocker right?

Now, chicken noodle soup is a total comfort food.  It warms the soul.  It warmed my husband up last night.  He came home from work and didn't have the greatest of days.  We sat down for dinner and his whole attitude changed.  The day just seemed to fade away.

Most chicken noodle soups hardly has any chicken in and too much broth.  Not this recipe.  My husband said it almost could have more broth!  A whole chicken went into this recipe.  Now, that's a lot of chicken.

Seriously, there is that much chicken in my soup, just like the picture shows.  Tonight, I actually added a can of chicken broth because it was looking more like chicken noodle stew.  Here's the recipe:

Sicilian Chicken Soup

Ingredients

  • 1 4-5 pound whole chicken giblets removed
  • 1 yellow onion finely chopped
  • 4 celery ribs diced
  • 3 carrots or 12 mini carrots diced
  • 2 red bell peppers diced
  • 2 medium russet potatoes peeled and diced into 1/2 -inch diced, you may use any baking potato
  • 14.5 ounces diced tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup fresh flat-leaf Italian parsley
  • 5 garlic cloves minced, I use my garlic press
  • Kosher salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1/2 pound ditalini pasta

Instructions

  • In a large soup pot place whole chicken, onion, red peppers, celery, carrots, potatoes, diced tomatoes with their juices and then add enough cold water to cover by 1 inch. Over high heat bring to a boil. Then add parsley, garlic, 1 tablespoon of salt and pepper.

  • Reduce the heat to medium-low, cover partially with a lid. Let it simmer for 2 hours, or until chicken is falling off the bone. Remove chicken and let it cool, for 30 minutes or until cool to the touch. Reduce heat to low and let the soup continue to simmer.

  • Remove all the meat from the chicken and shred the chicken into large pieces. Discard the skin and bones.

  • In a medium saucepan cook pasta as directed on box. Drain well and set aside in a bowl.

  • Using a potato masher, mash the soup around a few times, letting some of the potatoes get a little smashed. I don’t try too hard on this, I just mash 2-3 times and call it good. Add the shredded chicken and noodles to the pot. **We actually like to serve the serve the soup with the noodles on the side, letting each person add the amount of noodles they want.*

After you get done cooking the chicken, it literally falls off the bone.  I had to get a skimmer, of sorts, to get all the chicken and bones out of the broth.  Shredding the chicken isn't hard.  It was practlcally falling apart anyway.

I gotta warn you...this recipe does make a large pot full so be very hungry.  It's either that or plan on a lot of leftovers.

Not Another Christmas Card!

When am I going to learn?? I was barely one step from posting this and Google closed on me.  Poof!  My post is history.  So, here we go again.

This card again was inspired by using scraps.  I had some scraps of the Wrapped in Plaid from previous cards and projects.  I can't just throw those away.  Don't be afraid to put two different patterns together too.  These two are far enough apart they look good.

This card has the layered look.  The plaid is actually on the inside of the card.   That right!  The front of the card is actually cut 1/2 inch shorter than normal.  I tried to space the card stock so the layers are even.  Don't believe the plaid is on the inside?  Take a peek!

And there is still enough space to stamp a sentiment and also sign the card.

The larger ornament is punched out in gold foil and embossed with the Hammered Metal 3D embossing folder.  No stamping on that one!  The smaller one is stamped with the Golden Glitz inkpad.  In hindsight, I should have used the Stamparatus to get a better stamp.  My mistake.  In my defense, it does look better in real life than this picture!

Not to bad with using scraps as the inspiration!  What do you think?

Holly Plaid Christmas Card

With all the snow that is on the ground, it feels like winter, not fall.  We have at least 2 inches on the ground and it's very depressing.  It's like we skipped right over fall straight into winter.  It's not usual to have snow this early.  My husband is ready to move South.

Another Night of Navy/Shaded Spruce Buffalo Check card.  The best advice I can give you with this stamp is definately use the Stamparatus.  One stamp doesn't cover enough so the Stamparatus makes it super easy and no re-aligning necessary.

The Night of Navy was too bland so I used the Hammered Metal 3D Embossing Folder.  It took some time, but I do like it.  It can be used on just about any kind of card.  LOVE that!

The card came about by a stitched rectangle I found in my Shaded Spruce scraps.  That rectangle along with the buffalo check piece were just about the same size so it was a perfect match.  They couldn't mat each other, but by off-setting they work together.

Who says berries have to be red?  Not in my world.  I don't know what I would do without those blender pens!  You can color with any ink pad you own.  Eventually, I do want to buy more of the Stampin' Blends.  But you do get completely different looks with those vs. blender pens.

Notice the shine on the berries?  It's the new Shimmer Crystal Effects.  It works great to highlight a small area.  Your eye goes right to those berries.  It only takes about 15-20 minutes to dry.

Brightly Gleaming DSP goes Birthday

So, I was very undermotivated to get housework done this weekend.  I did finish up my flower beds today and got a bunch of little things done.  Just didn't feel like doing the vaccuuming, dusting and cleaning the bathroom.  Guess I know what is on the agenda for tomorrow.

I did get to play in my stamp room today.  On any given day, that is better than doing housework.

This card ended up completely different than what my intentions were.  It started out as a Christmas card, using the Brightly Gleaming DSP and Pretty Peacock.  After playing with the other pieces of Very Vanilla and Pretty Peacock, it turned into this.

The two pieces became banners.  I first stamped the sentiment and used the Banner Triple Punch on the right side.  Measured out what I liked for the end, I then cut the Pretty Peacock with the punch.  Adhere the two together and then cut the Pretty Peacock to match the end of the Very Vanilla.

That is Linen Thread wrapped around the banner.  It needed something and for some reason, rhinestones or pearls just weren't looking very good.

In the end, I like the look of a masculine Birthday Card.  You can never have too many of those and I don't make very many of them.  Little did I know, starting to make another Christmas card would end to being this!

Shaded Spruce goes Golden

I actually stepped outside today.  It was the first in two days.  It felt good to get out again.  Of course, the van was covered with snow and ice.  Thank goodness for defrosters.  After about 15 minutes, it all came off no problem.  I can't wait for the van to get back into the garage.  Maybe this weekend.  My husband has to clean the garage first.

A couple days ago, I said that I was going to try blue and green with the Buffalo Check stamp and here it is.

Here is Shaded Spruce cardstock with Night of Navy stamped on top.  So glad I used my Stamparatus again, because I did have to stamp several times to get it right.  Having the ink pad pretty juicy did help too.

I had the strip of Shaded Spruce in my scrap pile.  While I was at it, I stamped several scrap pieces.  And I was glad that I did.  By the time I was done, my fingers were  covered in ink!

Look how I stamped the inside of the card.   One tree wasn't just enough.
