Happy Birthday to You Fun Fold Card

It was a great way to start the month of March.  It was in the 50s and sunny.  Perfect day to go for a walk outside.  Wish I had time for one.  Maybe tomorrow.  Since it was so nice, it was time to grill outside for dinner.  The first burgers of the year.  I also planned ahead for leftovers later this week.  Yum.

I planned on this card for club last month.  Time got away from us so we weren't able to make this card.  They now know one card they will be doing this month.

Looks can be deceiving on this one.  The Whisper White is actually part of the inside.  Don't believe me?  Take a peek.

Now you can see it.  I cut off some of the front.  I actually cut 1 3/4 from the top, leaving 2 1/2 on the bottom.  My card had a little line that was part of the fold and I didn't like it.  So, I used the paper snips to trim up the center fold line.

This is what the actual inside looks like.

Take a close up of the cake and flowers.  My stitched rectangle lined up pefectly with the bottom of the Best Dressed DSP and the top of the Whisper White.  I suggest completing the front of the card.  When adhering the Whisper White, use the Multipurpose Liquid Glue.  You have a few second to manipulate the Whisper White to line up with the rectangle.  A few seconds is all you need and as much as I love Tear & Tape, it has absolute no wiggle room.

Best Dressed DSP is what is used on the front of the card.  The flowers match close enough to the flowers on the cake.  Most people won't even notice the slight difference.

The inside of the flowers are the Champagne Rhinestones.  Love them!!  I had to use them to match the Metallic Edged Ribbon.  Those two items I had to match.

Welcome Little One

Baby cards.  That is one category I don't normally do.  Mostly because my club or myself don't have any need for them.  I broke out of my box and actually made one today.

I had this card base already made from a previous card.  My challenge was to re-use it.  Challenge accepted.

I actually don't recall when was the last time I used the Animal Outing Stamp Set.  We get so caught up in using all the newer stamp sets, it's easy to forget about the older ones.

The DSP is from the Golden Honey pack.  There's no rule to use it only with the Honey Bee Stamp Set.  What I like this paper, is that the  lines are going on a diagonal for something different.

The giraffe is colored with the So Saffron and Crumb Cake Stampin' Blends.  They were also used on the inside of the card.  Afterwards, the thought came to me, stamp Congratulations on the inside.  Maybe tomorrow I'll look for one.  But for now, it's good.

I wanted to stamp the leaves on the front, but the Stitched Nested die used was just a bit to small.  If you would want to add the leaves, just go up a size in the die.  It would be super cute that way.

Sponging With the Meerkats

What a beautiful Sunday!  It was sunny and relatively warm, in the 40s.  That is warm for Wisconsin!  It was nice having the doors open for a little while getting some fresh air into the house.  The cat and dog liked sitting by the front door.  It's coming to an abrupt halt very soon.  Tuesday we are supposed to get 7-12 inches of snow.  But of couse, that can change by then too.

Club really liked making this card.  I saw it on Pinterest and couldn't resist CASEing the card.  I liked how the ground went around the meerkats and there was just a little white between the ground and sky.

You wouldn't have thought there was that many colors in the card right?  I kept sponging so you couldn't see the difference between the two colors in the sky and ground.

The sequins and baker's twine are from the SAB catalog, and unfortlunately are sold out.  It always happens to me when I get around to using them on my cards.  Bummer.  The sequins are not adhesive backed.  I found the easiest way to adhere them is to place tiny dots of the Multipurpose Adhesive Glue where you want to place the sequins.  Then, use the Take Your Pick tool, the adhesive end.  Pick up the sequin and then palce on the dot.  You may have to use your finger to gently get the sequin off the tool, but it's super easy.  It's the best way I have found.

Here's a quick peek at the inside.

I couldn't resist stamping him on the inside.  He's just so incredibly adorable!  Don't forget to color him with the Stampin' Blends.  Just sponging the ground and sky wouldn't be enough for him.

Don't forget these meerkats are FREE with a $50 order.  Check out the SAB catalog on the right side of my blog.

Timeless Tulips

Alyssa and I spent the afternoon in Madison going to several antique stores.  It was just a way of getting out of the house and hopefully not spending a lot.  We did good in the spending.  Even finding something for Chris.  I'm waiting for the Vintage Shop Hop the first weekend in March.  Have you heard of it?  There are over 400 stores, antique, boutique, consignment, around Wisconsin and Illinois that have special deals, sales, and all kinds of fun for this weekend.  Or it might be over 500 stores.  Let's just say it's a lot.  Just Google Vintage Shop Hop. They have a Google map so you can see where all the stores are located.

I borrowed the Timeless Tulips stamp set and punch from a friend and made good use of it.  I stamped and punched a whole of of stuff and my club people could use whatever they wanted by using this card as a template.

All the flowers, stems and leaves are adhered to the circle.  I was able to use one stem, cut in half, for both flowers.  For the leaves, it's actually just one.  I added it to left flower and cut off the end to go around the circle. Then, add the cut off part to the other flower.  It worked perfectly.

It's hard to tell, but the Basic Black is embossed using the Layered Leaves 3D Embossing Folder.  Otherwise, it was just too plain for my taste.

The sentiment is actually from the Sending You Thoughts Stamp Set.  It's FREE in the SAB catalog with a $50 order.  The Timeless Tulips stamp set does have some sentiments included, and I did stamp some of those.  But, when making this cad, I completely forgot about them!  Oops.  No harm done.  It was good to use this stamp set anyway.

Tasty Thursday - Prosciutto & Fresh Mozzarella on Grilled G

I know that football season is over, but in my household, college basketball has just begun.  March Madness is exactly that, Madness.  My husband and daughter absolutely love college basketball.  And not just the Badgers.  They watch and keep up with all teams.  It's crazy!

Here's a great appetizer for any game day.  Or any time you want.

This family loves proscuitto.  Are you familar with it?  I just Googled it for you.  It is an "Italian ham cured by drying and typically served in very thin slices."  We love it in recipes, wrapped around string cheese or mostly just by itself.  It is a little expensive, so we don't share it with others too much.

Mix proscuitto with fresh mozzarella cheese and you get a recipe for awesomeness!  Here's the recipe I found on Pinterest.

Proscuitto & Fresh Mozaarella on Grilled Garlic Toasts

makes 24 toasts
1 baguette
2 cloves of garlic, peeled
3 tablespoons of olive oil
8 ounces of fresh mozzarella, sliced
6 slices of prosciutto, thinly sliced
sea salt & cracked pepper
fresh basil, chopped

Prepare the bread by slicing it into thin slices.  Grill bread just before serving.  You can do it under the broiler in your oven, or on the grill.  Brush the bread with olive oil on one side.  If broiling, place them on a sheet oiled side up and place them under the broiler for 1-2 minutes.  Be careful not to burn!  If grilling, also grill the bread for 1-2 minutes.  When you remove them from the grill or oven, let them cool slightly, then rub the raw clove of garlic on each piece.

If grilling, brush the other side of the bread with oil, the put that side down on the baking sheet or tray.  If you are broiling in the oven, just keep the toasts on the sheet with their toasted side up. Top each piece of bread with small, thin slices of prosciutto.  Then, top each with a slice of fresh mozzarella.  Grill or broil the toasts for 2 minutes, or just until the mozzarella begins to melt.  Remove from the grill or broiler and top with salt, pepper and fresh basil.

As for the grilling part, we didn't make it that way.  When we had this, it was for a Packer Football game and it was a little too chilly to grill outside.  I did toast the bread in the oven and it did make a difference.

This was a relatively easy appetizer to make.  The bread could be cut ahead of time and stored in an air tight container.  Definately don't grill it ahead of time.  It does have to be warm when served.

I found the recipe here: http://jennysteffens.blogspot.com/2012/05/grilled-prosciutto-fresh-mozzarella.html

Hey Ladybugs!

Aren't these ladybugs just too adorable?  We made this card at our demonstrator meeting as a Make 'n Take.  It can be earned FREE if you have an order of $300 or over.  What!?!  It doesn't have to be just your order.  An order can be combined with your friend's.  Or, you can hostess a party.  You can introduce me to some of your friends, and I can create some fun projects to make.  I'm always open to do a party.  It would be a great time!

We used both Stampin' Blends and watercolor pencils on this card.  The ladybug wings are colored with the Real Red Stampin' Blends.  Their bellies and also the flower are colored by using the watercolor pencils.  I like it when both mediums are used.  It shows variety in stamping.

The dsp paper is actually from the Peaceful Poppies DSP.  Great way to think outside of the box to mix the paper with the ladybugs.  Would you have thought about it?  I'm not sure if I would have.

Eiffel Tower and Cherry Blossoms

Anyone else having trouble with Charter cable and internet?  It's been going up and down all night.  It's driving me crazy!!

Tomorrow night is club so today, I've been busy getting ready for that.  I'm excited because we are using all new stamp sets from the Spring Mini and the SAB catalog.

This card was a little bit of a challenge to get everything to look right.  Took a bit of playing around to see where the pieces fit.

The strip of Cherry Cobbler is embossed with the Parisian Flourish 3D Embossing Folder.  I don't know if you can see it, but it's there!

Champagne Foil sheet is what the Eiffel Tower is cut from.  This foil has quickly become a favorite of mine.  The cherry blossoms are heat embossed on vellum and the flourish is just plain ole vellum.  That's a lot going on for one card!

Oh, it's not shown, but I added three Champagne Rhinestones to the sentiment, on the bottom left side.  It needed a little something.   Am I the only one who orders things like these and then forget to use them?  I sure hope not!

Are you looking to for an easy way to order these supplies?  There is an option to purchase the Parisian Blososoms Suite Bundle.  You can see the link below, but it includes both stamp sets and dies, DSP, foil sheets and embellishments.  You won't forget something by ordering this suite.
